And revisiting LA with Cricket is an opportunity for Nell to take a look at the life, and people, she left behind. Then there’s Annabel, the life coach; well, there’s always one suitably annoying fly in the ointment. I loved getting back in touch with Nell and her life, and though our situations are different, there was still plenty I could relate to, as a woman of a similar age. I liked the format of the book especially Nell's Things I Am Grateful For at the end of each chapter.

She learns not only that ‘while broken hearts heal…you never forget’, but also the need to be true to yourself. They don't stand out, she's not taking us for fools and repeating the first book, but she's cleverly worked the important bits into the earlier chapters which really helped get into the flow. No one is interested in seeing your misery but for some people whose lives aren’t perfect (and by that, I mean everyone), it sometimes feels that those heavily curated posts suggest everyone has it good except…. This is an absolutely fantastic follow up to Confessions of a 40 Year Old F*** Up, I knew before going into this one that I was going to love it just as much as the first book.

Jāsaka, ka tie reti ir tikpat spēcīgi kā pirmā grāmata un, lai arī man patiešām patika arī šis, par mata tiesu tomēr šis kaut ko ir zaudējis - 4. Nell has to navigate choppy waters during these twelve months, with one friend seriously unwell, ‘you can’t worry someone well’, says Cricket wisely; another contemplating divorce – oh, and another. And then lots of people saying that it made them feel less alone, that they feel like they're trying to figure life out and that everyone seems to be succeeding, and they kind of still don't know what they're doing, and this book made them feel reassured that it's normal and that's what everybody feels like. With thanks to Netgalley,Alexandra Potter and Pan MacMillan for my chance to read and review this book. Although creating your own coffin… maybe I’d pass on that 😂 This sequel to Confessions of a forty-something f**k up did not disappoint! Single - nearly 29 and single, and I'm still being asked "when are you going to find a man and settle down? Yes, there were sad bits and that made me teary, but the pure hope running through the book is so moving too. To begin with it wasn’t what I expected at all and took me about a quarter to get into it but then I was in full Nell and Cricket loving mode.

This is the first day I am going to look at my live as adventure and to think whatever I do I will get there in life, there is no correct way to do it . but as the Prologue makes clear, this is ‘a book about a messy life in a world of perfect Instagram ones’ and I think we can all relate to that. And then there’s the ‘unexpected baggage’, things you thought you’d dealt with and suddenly find that you haven’t.
