Description

The tonearm, tonearm base, counterweight assembly, sound-isolation feet, cue lever, speed select dial, and many other components of the turntable, are made from recycled aluminum and plastics. Like all house of Marley products, the new Stir It Up wireless turntable checks off a lot of boxes in terms of green cred. I’ve looked at reviews for both of them and they’re all overwhelmingly positive for both units, so I can’t decide.

The top is made from bamboo, a sustainable resource, and the sides and bottom are covered in an organic cotton and hemp blend. I also found on first use that it this was an issue, however after a few hours of use the gimbal seems to 'loosen up' and then the tone arm can be properly balanced. Following House of Marley's instructions, I placed the pressure gauge on the plate, and then the stylus needle onto its 2-gram mark, and slowly adjusted the weight until the pressure gauge became level. Or is it just a nicely dressed gymic piece aimed at someone who just wants to spin vynal without any consideration for sound quality, just convenience but no real sound and dynamic capabilities?Inside the box are two squares of corrugated cardboard to separate the individual cables and plugs, with one plastic foam cover to protect the turntable and a printed set-up guide. Sure, this unit has a few downsides, but that's to be expected with any turntable aimed at a more casual audience. Enjoy playing 33 1/3 or 45 RPM records while the belt-driven mechanism reduces vibration and motor noise - promising optimal audio performance.

I liked this eye-catching idea when House of Marley first announced the turntable and I was excited to check it out. The bamboo plinth that forms much of the exterior is easy on the eyes, whose neutral color makes it easy to fit into any room's aesthetic. The player is made from sustainable materials, from the stylish bamboo plinth to the recycled aluminum alloy platter. The speaker paired easily to my cell phone, but the turntable and speaker just won’t pair, even right next to each other. While I commend the brand's vision, only being offered a cloth cover for the top makes me nervous about my more valuable vinyl in the collection.

The good thing about the Stir It Up turntable is it’s a solid enough device that it’s worth spending the money to make the switch if and when you’re ready. Playing record is a matter of placing the record on the platter, setting the speed as required, unclipping the arm, pulling the arm lowering lever FORWARD to lift it, moving the arm over the record (which starts the platter rotating), then pushing the lever BACK to lower it (I found the lever worked the opposite way to what I expected). In keeping with House of Marley’s mandate of creating eco-friendly products, the Lux maintains the line’s tradition of having its plinth made from sustainable bamboo, which produces a natural and fresh look that has defined the company’s aesthetic in all its products.

The House Of Marley Stir It Up turntable passed this test with ease, reproducing Marley's classic Caribbean cuts with power and clarity. Since the user has to set this up themselves, it took me a fair amount of time to balance it correctly.
