From what I can tell from memory, this one is more citric and fresh than the 1980s version, but that's the way most classic fragrances have gone. Never the less, I find myself ready for testing the new one now - knowing that the original is still all that. This fragrance won this award for the design of the bottle, symbolizing the famous unstructured jacket firm on a masculine silhouette.

I had been lusting after a certain smell, the classic, like something my grandfather would have worn, and I have to say I experienced what I'm sure can only be compared to a junkie's high when I smelled it. You won’t really notice any difference between a product purchased from Perfume’s Club and a product purchased from a seller in our new Marketplace. Not knowing anything about fragrances I assumed it would always be available for me to purchase, only to find out years later the original formula would change. Armani Pour Homme is a soapy, fresh scent that is clean and elegant; it is fresh and light yet the Sandalwood and Oak Moss in its base give it some real heft. The only downside on this one is the longevity, especially if you live in a hot country then it would evaporate very quickly.

But since a lot of cheapies tried to smell similar it is easy to mistake that fragrance for something not as classy as Giorgio Armani Eau Pour Homme. In drying down, the warmness of the patchouli becomes more noticeable and the bitterness of the citrus plays in to create not the usual chypre but something far more unique and fine-tuned. You can forget about getting anywhere close to this level with cheapies such as Victor or Aqua di Selva. The original, which lasted for nearly 30 years, was a wonderful explosion of mandarin, orange, bergamot and other citrus notes. With its scent features, it is a suitable choice for any time of day and can be worn throughout the year, especially during social activities. As we walked the streets, we felt the breeze coming from what turned out to be the air conditioning from a beautiful perfumery and headed inside to escape the blistering heat. The citrus in the top notes is quite well done with prominent lemon and basil, and a mild spiciness.

But it's still very good, and similar to Dior's Eau Sauvage without the cabbage-y accord near the skin that I don't much care for in that scent. It opens up with like citrusy- soapy then it moves to spicy aromatic heart with a classic base of patchouli, woods and oakmoss. To be honest I prefer Dior Eau Sauvage or Chanel Pour Monsieur as those are better blended in that old-fashioned style and I am personally not a big fan of that amount of cloves note in perfumes. The reformulation isn’t as good as the one with the black base but it’s still a wonderful clean, crisp, citrusy masterpiece….

The bold hesperidic (that's a fancy way of saying "citrusy") opening gives way to a spicy aromatic heart with a classic base of patchouli, woods and oakmoss (at least if you have an old bottle like mine from before they banned oakmoss. The lack of silver accents and the presence of the brown motley inhomogeneities match the slightly more organic character of Armani compared to the warmer but more impersonal Bulgari. It's Armani's signature male fragrance, so you'd figure they'd step it up to make it more high-end instead of producing it as the weakest cheapest form of fragrance possible in a toilette.
