This means that if you do ‘go over’ on your ankle, you’ve really got nowhere to fall to — you’re already at ground-zero! There’s also a Magna II made of wild hide leather and merino wool liner, while the Magna Trail Forest ESC has a Michelin outsole if you’re leaning towards more outdoor exploration. The only reason these get a 4 is because ultimately, they’re really comfortable and my heel pain has gone. However, I found that the laces on the Magna Trail lineup have frayed and become destroyed rather quickly, and I reckon this will happen to the Magna Forest ESC as they seem identical.

The Magna Trail II FG has an Outlast thermal insole that combines 3 layers, absorbing, storing and releasing heat. As I like to live and travel as minimally as possible, having versatile shoes to handle many weather conditions is important. However after wearing them the first time for a walk, I noticed the crease at the base of the toes where they bend really rubbing against my big toe knuckle, making it uncomfortable and I got blisters. The second generation has changed quite a bit which I’ll dive into but the core concept of the barefoot DNA and Magna Trail model is alive and well as the first generation.

The outlast thermal regulator insole also features reflective foil to keep your toes warmer during the cooler months. Though only thin, the outsole has a puncture resistant layer that is 5 times more resistant than standard soles of the same thickness.

Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. The second generation Magna Trail retains the same design and swaps out the Corduroy branded nylon and neoprene liner with a similar textile for the body and knitted sock upper. I’ve done some free climbing, bouldering, mountaineering, and more stuff which required a level of grip. Leading up to my first wear of these I’d been running in zero-drop trail runners (totally flat across the whole sole). When you walk in the countryside, in the mountains or in a green landscape you feel something that you can't feel sitting in front of your computer. Perfect for scrambling, hiking, wading through snow, and similar activities – the grip is definitely a step up over most barefoot shoes. Magna Trail II Firm Ground is a versatile off-road shoe, designed to let you get back to nature with maximum sensory feedback. Removeable liner aids in drying and enables you to adapt the liner depending on activity level and temperature.

They use sustainable and eco-friendly materials in their shoe production, such as recycled plastics and natural fibers.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The dense Corduroy material means I can walk through high puddles of water and get these soaked under heavy rain with no sweat… or soggy feet. We don’t (yet) have the transparency we need over the production of all the small components (such as adhesives and dyes) used in these products to ensure they meet vegan best practices. The eyelets seem to have worn down on them a lot and while they still work, after 4 months of frequent use I can’t help but think that’s a weak point. The Tracker Forest ESC is designed to work in harmony with nature, allowing you to connect to the most extreme forest and off-road conditions our planet has to offer.

I found comfort out of the box to be very good, other than where the thick leather strap for the top lace loop runs across my medial ankle bone. By wearing minimalist shoes you can develop stronger feet, improve posture, and enhance overall foot and lower body health. lug height, plus a textured arch for zonal grip (ideal for technical trail movement), this sole will keep your feet firmly planted on multiple terrains — wet to dry, concrete to rocky. That feeling of walking in nature connects you with your most authentic self, the real you, the one that prefers a long walk to sitting in front of the TV. They’ll be tough to get on at first and the break-in period isn’t great regardless, but they’ll feel a little more snug. A hybrid blend between the ESC Tempest, Magna Trail, and Tracker, the new Vivobarefoot Magna Forest ESC combines elements of all three into one shoe. I’ve stopped delaying my review of the Vivobarefoot Magna Trail, finally putting pen to paper on how these have fared after usage over the one and a half years I’ve since had these.
